Hey Julia! I was just wondering what advice you have to an aspiring writer. I always start off with great idea, but then I get too technical; like I start listing things. How do I get out of that habit? Also I never finish a book. How do I keep my drive? -Isabelle

HI Do take a look at the tips in the side bar to this Ask page. On your specific question, listing sounds like something that should go in to a notebook not a manuscript - dump all that stuff in there and use the notes as a place to structure it into something worth writing about. Julia

Hi Julia! I just finished Wolf Cry and its a good read, one of the best books ive read, and im so glad your coming to visit our school in november! (I was going over your blog, and was amazed to find you mention someone with the same name as me, since I always thought my name would be kind of rare)

I wonder if that was a reader from Germany? I can't remember now. Look forward to seeing you in the Autumn. Julia

Hello. Can't believe there's new Cat book covers, i've only just read all of them and have the old covers. And i can't even get one because none of my friends read (N) they all call me a geek! oh well, happy writing julia! and also, do you ever read what someone has wrote? thanks :)

Hi I can't read work by other writers for comment if that's what you mean but I am happy to answer specific questions about writing. Julia

Nothing against pen names (I use one myself) but why did you use a different pen name for 'The Other Duchess'? Just wondering. It seemed sort of odd...maybe you were trying a different writing style, so you didn't want people to get mad at the 'Julia Golding' they knew, so you made up a different name? Or did you just do it for fun? :) Thanks!

None of those reasons. The content is older and I don't want my younger readers thinking it is the same kind of book (this happens with some other writers who don't separate their books out). I am thinking of quite different readerships.

Dear Julia, I LOVE your books!! I really like Companions Quartet. I was wondering what does Connie look like? What will you call the next Companions Quartet book? Thanx Tia

She is best described right at the beginning of Sirens. The titles will be on the FAQ page when I'm ready to announce them ;) J

Dear Julia, I was just wondering: 1) Are you making a movie out of the 'Cat Royal' series? 2)If you are making a movie, do you need a young, willing actress to play the role of Cat? Because, you see, acting and reading is my life and I am a great fan of your wonderful books. I am around the same age as Cat, I look like her, and I am amazing at acting (even if I do say so myself!) Please contact me on my email address-I will wait with bated breath for your reply!

Hi I'd love a movie to be made but I am a writer rather than a movie studio. Open to offers though. Come on Hollywood! J

Hi Julia! I love your books - they keep me up all night reading.(Dragonfly and Companion's Quartet are my all time favorite books!) I was just wondering if you have ever considered making them into films?

I'd love it - but it would have to come from a film studio rather than me. I hope someone does get interested enough to offer for them. J

Hi!! I am a big fan of your Cat Royal books and will soon be purchasing some more of your books I was just wondering if you had ever considered going to the port elliot festival. Its a Literary festival in Cornwall it might be too late this year but you should try to go next year as it would be nice to recognise an author!

Hi Sounds lovely. Festivals usually do their own inviting but you could suggest me to the organizers. J

Hi Julia, I love the Cat Royal books very much! So adventures!! Some weeks ago my brother got sick and asked me if I could find him a good book to read to pass the time, so I gave him "The Diamond of Drury" to read (took the cover of so it didn't look like I was making him read a girly book) and he read it in a day and said how much he liked it but did say it was more a girls book then a boys. He told me not to tell any of his mates about him reading it and said his fav characters are Billy and Syd. Love Amy xxx

I hope he is better now. J

Did your favourite band/singer/genre of music inspire the singing with animals in Companion's Quartet.

I don't know - what an intriguing thought. Perhaps the experience of singing in a choir is in there - or joint worship in the Taize community, a Christian ecumenical community in France, which has wonderful meditative chants. J

Ms./Mrs. Golding do you enjoy writing Cat's story and who is your favorite character (mine is cat syd and lizze) Thanks P.S. does Syd really like Cat oh and Billy like Cat

I think I like Cat and Billy most when I write - and JF. All the wicked/naughty characters... J No comment on the PS - you 'll have to read the books to find out.

Hi Julia! I love the Cat Royal books, but it seems that Black Heart isn`t in the US yet. I looked at the FAQ`s page but I didn`t understand. Can you tell me when it will be out?

I don't know because it depends on the publisher - they took the first four to see how they did. Waiting on that to hear if they take the rest. J
