Of interest to US readers, DRAGONFLY made YALSA's Teens Top Ten nomination listTeens' Top Ten is a "teen choice" list, where teens nominate and choose their favorite books of the previous year!
Nominators are members of teen book groups in fifteen school and public libraries around the country. Nominations are posted on Support Teen Literature Day during National Library Week, and teens across the country vote on their favorite titles each year. Readers ages twelve to eighteen will vote online between Aug. 23 and Sept. 17; the winners will be announced in a webcast featuring WWE Superstars and Divas during Teen Read Week.
I don't know if you were in one of those schools, but thanks!

Spent Sunday and Monday in the cathedral city of Winchester. In the crypt of the cathedral is this amazing flooded space with an Antony Gormley statue - love it!

Just a quick post to let you know I've put up some pages for Cat and Companions fan art (and will for other books if you send any in). Here's an excellent display on the link of Russian fan art to give you inspiration. Send pictures to the publisher and they'll send them on to me.
Thanks to Imy and Tabbie for starting us off!

Hi folks
Two things to bring to your attention - a new competition for The Glass Swallow and your chance to name a Cat Royal story (see Cat Royal Novella page). Hope this keeps you all happily thinking for the Easter holidays!
And my very most loyal fans might want to take a look at something on YouTube called The Other Countess by Eve Edwards. Do you suspect my hand behind it maybe? If you like the booktrailer, please give it a rating to start Eve off to on good footing. This is the first of the teen books I have been mentioning on this site for a while. More on the other soon.
And while I'm thinking about ratings, if you ever want to review my books on Amazon in US or the UK, it really helps as people pay attention to what readers say. I have my fingers crossed that you say nice things, but even so, there's a space there for you to make your feelings known.
And thanks to the boy who did a book report on sirens posted on YouTube - I watched it with pride!
Best wishes
Julia

The duchess has now graced us with her replies. Check out what she has to say about Cat, Frank and 18th century underwear - among other topics - on her own page in Cat Royal section.

I've been intending to share this link with you all for some time now. The Russian publisher ran a fantastic competition for Companions artwork and the readers produced some amazing stuff. Scroll down past the Russian text and you'll see what I mean!

Mid birthday season in my family so currently trying to work out how to make a cake look like a Pokemon character as well as work on a new fantasy series that should please Companions fans. So if there's a scene with a character trying to created a miracle out of sponge and icing - you know where that came from!
I read the four Twilight books recently - fascinating to see what is popular. My favourite was the second and last - not that keen on the first and third drifted a bit. Personally if I ever write about vampires, they'd have to comic - something about that cold skin and pointy teeth that just does not do it for me!

Cat news
Fans of the Cat guest questions will be pleased to hear the duchess has deigned to answer your queries. Send them in before end of March. The more outrageous, the better as she is one of my more colourful personalities.
Polls should also be back after next weekend. The site will have to go down for a couple of hours to allow this but it will be fun to have your votes once more. I'm thinking of asking for your title suggestions for the Cat novella I'm planning. If enough of you think this would be fun, I'll set it up as a competition with a brief outline of the plot idea.

I'm just back from a brief trip up north. I spoke at the Yorvik Viking festival which did not disappoint with a guest appearance of a viking at my talk - a butcher complete with bloodstained apron. I also discovered from an expert Ohthere is not 'Oh- there' as I assumed but said 'Oht-her-re' which makes sense of the Latin alternative Ottar. I can't stop myself saying it wrong as that was the name in my head as I wrote it. (For those who don't know which book I'm talking about, this is Wolf Cry.)

For those of you following the introduction of a puppy in the Golding household, here he is at 4 months on a frozen Port Meadow, Oxford. I took a break from writing to walk him there to watch the ice skaters.

Merry Christmas to all my readers!
Next year is going to be a good year for Cat lovers (she's back and she's as outrageous as ever in August!).
It's also good for those of you who liked Dragonfly as I revisit that world in The Glass Swallow and have two new characters for you to fall in love with - Rain and Peri.
Wish I was celebrating a better outcome from Copenhagen though. What a tragic failure of political will. I was proud of the UK delegates though - last minute save of the accord by our Environment Minister when it was going to be thrown out (Obama and PMs had all disappeared thinking it a done deal). If you can, please do what you can where you are to try and tell the world leaders that this was not good enough - our future really is at stake.
