CAT'S Q&A

Do you have questions that you would love to ask Cat Royal? Allow Cat to put her 18th Century perspectives on your modern dilemmas.

My dear friends,

Good news - the Duchess of Avon has now answered your questions.  Her replies are now posted.

Dr Golding has told me that some of my messages to her which she used to record my sea-going adventures are now available on something called Twitter.  You have to look for Catherine Royal but then can follow my story there.  It gives a behind-the-scenes look at what went on - not everything made it in to my memoirs.

I have also just received this shocking news from Mr Egmont, my bookseller:

Dear loyal readers,

We had hoped to publish Cat Royal’s latest adventure in August of this year, but instead we have had to delay publication after a terrible occurrence.

The precious manuscript was snatched from our offices late one evening, possibly by that unscrupulous publisher, Mr Tweadle, or one of Billy Shepherd’s henchmen, we do not know. Happily one of our editors was working late and spotted the thief .... Pursuing the villain, he saw him cast the script into the Thames, and with the help of a local fisherman was able to rescue it in time to save it ....

But sadly for all Cat’s readers, much of her tale had to be retyped through water damage and we will not be able to have it ready for publication for this August. We hope to have it ready for the press ten months later than expected.

Yours regretfully, Mr Egmont

I am very frustrated by the delay, which once again is out of my hands.  I have decided instead to release on these pages a small adventure - a novella in fact - for my faithful readers to read for free.  I will start the installments in August to reward you for your patience.  It will start at the point I left you in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, please do carry on asking for my advice.

Cat Royal

Hi Cat! Have you heard of the Lost City of Atlantis? If you do, do you think it exist? And why are the ballerinas so mean to you?-Celine

Is that not a legend? They warmed to me eventually. At Drury Lane many were my friends. Cat

Dear Cat Royal I think it's smart that you don't share really personal stuff on-line (Meaning a the rather public place we're reading your stuff). What advice would you have though for some one who did share something personal and then their friends broadcasted it to the entire world? That happened to my sister and now she wont leave her room. What should I do for her. Her "friends" have been really mean through this whole thing. Thanks a lot. Fiona

How terrible for her! I would tell her to be angry and outraged at the betrayal rather than embarrassed and ashamed at what was revealed. It is for the so-called friends to be ashamed. She should come out of her room for she is the injured party. Cat

Hi Cat. You probably don't remember me. I asked for advice about my friend. Thank you for answering. I took your advice however he was quite persistant. He even asked me to elope! Oh why does everything in life have to become so confusing!?!?!? Dinah

Eloping is a very risky business as many a girl has found herself ruined rather than at Gretna Green. Firm and polite refusals are really all you can do. He will get the message. Cat

Hello Catherine Royal! I was wondering; if you were to choose would you have the ability to fly in the shy or have the ability to breath and see clearly underwater?-Celine

Oh fly please! Cat

Yes I like Syd - he has a heart of gold. No. No, more loose curls. Cat

Hello Cat! Have you ever wish to see your parents again? And do you wish you have a sister?-Celine

I don't remember my parents so it would not be 'again' for me. A sister would be good. Cat

Of course. Cat

Celine wrote on 26 July 2010:

Hey Cat! It's Celine again! I have found out that you were 12-13 years old in your first book The Diamond of Drury Lane. So how old are you now? And I have another question: Have you ever play a nasty trick on Billy for revenge? If so, what did you do?-Celine

Well it is now 1792 - I think you can work it out! I have yet to have a really splendid revenge but there is a small one in the forthcoming The Middle Passage. Cat

Dinah wrote on 26 July 2010:

Cat! My best friend in the whole world just told me he loves me. You know... My pal suggested I ask you for advice. I just want to be friends and go back to normal. I'm not ready for this! I'm only fifteen! Dinah Murray

I can understand your reaction. I would thank him for his kind words and tell him how flattered you are but as you do not return he feelings you should let him down gently. Tell him how much you value his friendship and ask for time for you both to think things through. That should help manage the stormy emotions of this moment. Cat

Dear Cat and Julia, Thanks a ton for posting the Limerick Competition! I think I wrote four and it was soooo fun! Thanks again! Yours Truly, Evelina, Maryland, USA

Dear Cat, I know Dr. Golding will be posting a Novella but if there ever was another one, I thought Cat Tales would be fun. (Play on words of catails) Yours Truly, Evelina P.S I love the book Evelina too!

Hello Cat! Celine again! Did you read my three questions (about ghost)because you didn't reply. Anyway, have you ever thought about going to China to see the Great Wall and the Ice Palace? (I wish I could go there!)-Celine you no.1 fan!

I have recently penned my reply. It would take several years to get to China and be very expensive. Cat

Sylvia wrote on 25 July 2010:

Dear Cat, Is Syd your crush? If it is, give him a pony dyed in his favorite color, and attach a not to it saying: Yellow ponies are your favorite. Bye!

My goodness - ponies! Whatever next? Cat

Sylvia wrote on 25 July 2010:

Dear Cat, Do you know how to swim? Do you even know how to swim? Would you reccomend swimming for blind people? Weird... - Sylvia

Dear Sylvia, I am not adept at the art (Cats don't like water). It is a useful skill for anyone to know - you never know when it might come in useful on one's travels. Cat

Hey cat, I just love to read your adventures!!I would like to know how old are you? What is your favorite adventure?

I enjoyed my time in Paris, particularly dancing at the Opera. The other answer can be found on Dr Golding's FAQ noticeboard. Cat

Jacqueline wrote on 24 July 2010:

Cat, I'm writing a book and was wondering how long it would take to go from Bristol to Ireland by ship. Thanks, Jacqueline

It all depends on the weather but a day or two if you are lucky. Cat

celine wrote on 23 July 2010:

Hey Cat! Sorry I keep on typing(or should I say 'writing') to you. I can't help it I have so many questions for you! But today I will ask you three questions for you: 1. Do you believe in ghost?(I do!) 2. Have you seen a ghost before? 3. Have you seen something so strange that you can't come up with an explanation?-Celine

I'm not very superstitious but have an open mind on ghosts. Some people told me Drury Lane was haunted but I never saw one. Most strange things I've seen they say natural philosophy will explain, such as rainbows. But I prefer not to know the explanation, but enjoy the beauty. Cat

Janiey-ran wrote on 23 July 2010:

Miss Catherine Royal, if you were ever to date a guy, would you like it if he was a chivalric type? If not, what would you find in a guy? ~ Lady Janiey Ran

If I had to put a date on him, I would imagine a chivalric type would be from the Medieval period. Cat

tami wrote on 23 July 2010:

hi,when will your next book be coming out? where will you live now? what is your favourite colour. best wishes for the future, have a great life.

Dear Tami, My next book is imminent - a novella soon to be released on this very noticeboard dedicated to me. My favourite colour is green and I am of no fixed abode at present having spent much of the last few years travelling on my own grand tour. Cat
