CAT'S Q&A

Do you have questions that you would love to ask Cat Royal? Allow Cat to put her 18th Century perspectives on your modern dilemmas.

My dear friends,

Good news - the Duchess of Avon has now answered your questions.  Her replies are now posted.

Dr Golding has told me that some of my messages to her which she used to record my sea-going adventures are now available on something called Twitter.  You have to look for Catherine Royal but then can follow my story there.  It gives a behind-the-scenes look at what went on - not everything made it in to my memoirs.

I have also just received this shocking news from Mr Egmont, my bookseller:

Dear loyal readers,

We had hoped to publish Cat Royal’s latest adventure in August of this year, but instead we have had to delay publication after a terrible occurrence.

The precious manuscript was snatched from our offices late one evening, possibly by that unscrupulous publisher, Mr Tweadle, or one of Billy Shepherd’s henchmen, we do not know. Happily one of our editors was working late and spotted the thief .... Pursuing the villain, he saw him cast the script into the Thames, and with the help of a local fisherman was able to rescue it in time to save it ....

But sadly for all Cat’s readers, much of her tale had to be retyped through water damage and we will not be able to have it ready for publication for this August. We hope to have it ready for the press ten months later than expected.

Yours regretfully, Mr Egmont

I am very frustrated by the delay, which once again is out of my hands.  I have decided instead to release on these pages a small adventure - a novella in fact - for my faithful readers to read for free.  I will start the installments in August to reward you for your patience.  It will start at the point I left you in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, please do carry on asking for my advice.

Cat Royal

Dear Cat, How do you get onboard a ship? Is there some sort of ladder or do you just use a rope like a rock climbing wall? I am very curious and have yet to find the answer elsewhere. Thank you very much! Your friend, Melody

It depends how low it is in the water and if you are in port. From the water level you climb a rope; in port you might use a gangplank. Cat

Dear cat I really enjoy your stories( I have read the first two so far) And I have some questions. 1. What is your favourite colour? 2. Do you like it in Coventry? 3. What is your favourite song? 4. How many people read your stories as I don't know anyone else that has heard of your books (I fell quite sorry for them)? 5.What other books do you think I would enjoy if I like your stories? From Daniel

Green. I do not think I have ever been there. It changes with the times. At the moment I like songs from the Beggar's Opera. I have no idea. Perhaps Robinson Crusoe or Gulliver's Travels. Cat

Dear Cat, I have three questions for you: Which is your favorite place, London, Philadelphia, or Paris? Do you know how to swim and climb trees? And what was the stupidest thing you saw Syd done P.S. Just want to tell you that Paris is no longer a poor and terrible place. Now In the future Paris is a rich and beautiful place that everyone from all over the world wants to go there. And Paris also have the best fashion!-Celine

London. Yes. Refuse me a place in his gang. Cat

Dear Miss Royal, I have recently been re-reading your tales - they've always been a favorite of mine, and have spent far too much time on my bookshelf. Anyway, I was reading about how you were press-ganged and taken to the Americas only this morning, and I saw something which quite puzzled me once I reached the chapters in which you become Little Turtle's reluctant beau. It was evident that, as being adopted into his family, you were his sister in all but blood - how come, then, they expected you to marry your brother? My condolences for loosing someone dear to you as well - pray do not think me unfeeling in my voicing of this message. Thank you for your time. Yours sincerely, Emily Jones

I think they understood sister in a wider sense than we use the term. it means one of us. Cat

Hello Cat! If your real name is Catherine then why so they call you Cat? Is it because you are too...Catty? P.S. I hate to be nosy but what do you think made your real parents abandoned you?

I think because i have certain cat-like qualities. cat

Cat or Julia, I've tried to follow your adventures on twitter but I get nothing when I search Catherine Royal. Does it really work? Am I spelling something wrong? I'm not mad or anything, just a mite confused. Thank you, Oriah

yes it really works. I'm in Italy at the moment replying from a phone so can't check easily. i'm a follower of Cat too on Twitter so you could try via me (jgoldingauthor) and see if you can see who I'm following. J

Dear Cat, I always had the impression that Grosvenor Square was pronounced as it is spellt. However, my father told me it's pronounced Grove-ner. Is he correct or not? You can probably tell from my ignorance that I'm not English. In fact, I'm American Indian as people call us. We prefer, Indigenous Peoples.

Your father is right. Practise saying it with a silver spoon in your mouth and you'll sound like a native (Londoner that is). Cat

Howdy Cat! I have three questions for you to answer today: Who is the second person you hate the most? When you learn ballet do you find it easy or difficult(I learn ballet and I wasn't very flexible so I find it kind of difficult sometimes)? and last but not least do you want your hair strait or you like it the way it is?-Celine

I think I hate Mr Tweadle second. Ballet is fiendishly hard to master. i sometimes hanker after well behaved straight hair. Cat
