CAT'S Q&A

Do you have questions that you would love to ask Cat Royal? Allow Cat to put her 18th Century perspectives on your modern dilemmas.

My dear friends,

Good news - the Duchess of Avon has now answered your questions.  Her replies are now posted.

Dr Golding has told me that some of my messages to her which she used to record my sea-going adventures are now available on something called Twitter.  You have to look for Catherine Royal but then can follow my story there.  It gives a behind-the-scenes look at what went on - not everything made it in to my memoirs.

I have also just received this shocking news from Mr Egmont, my bookseller:

Dear loyal readers,

We had hoped to publish Cat Royal’s latest adventure in August of this year, but instead we have had to delay publication after a terrible occurrence.

The precious manuscript was snatched from our offices late one evening, possibly by that unscrupulous publisher, Mr Tweadle, or one of Billy Shepherd’s henchmen, we do not know. Happily one of our editors was working late and spotted the thief .... Pursuing the villain, he saw him cast the script into the Thames, and with the help of a local fisherman was able to rescue it in time to save it ....

But sadly for all Cat’s readers, much of her tale had to be retyped through water damage and we will not be able to have it ready for publication for this August. We hope to have it ready for the press ten months later than expected.

Yours regretfully, Mr Egmont

I am very frustrated by the delay, which once again is out of my hands.  I have decided instead to release on these pages a small adventure - a novella in fact - for my faithful readers to read for free.  I will start the installments in August to reward you for your patience.  It will start at the point I left you in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, please do carry on asking for my advice.

Cat Royal

Hello Miss Catherine! I have a few questions. What was your personal favourite memory and why do you think it is? What makes you think about that memory?

Memory ...um can you repeat the question please, I've forgotten it. My favourite memory is dancing at the Paris Opera. Cat

Hello Cat, I was just wondering, when you were very young and had first come to the theatre, did you begin to stay in the Sparrow's Nest at nighttime immediately, or did you sleep elsewhere? If so, was anyone about the theatre to check you didn't ... well, break anything or get into similar trouble?

Dear Sophie, My memories of my early days in the theatre are hazy (I was very young) but I think I was looked after by one of the seamstresses in the wardrobe who often slept up in the Sparrow's Nest - that was how I began to think of it as my bedchamber. Cat

Hello Cat! I got 3 questions for you: Have you heard of a country called Malaysia? What was the best trick you ever done to your friends on April fools day? And can you name three things you really like about the theatre?-Celine

No. Is it far away? Swapped all the music for the dance with a dirge. Drama on stage, drama backstage, drama in the audience. Cat

How long will Frank spend at college? And after that what prospects do young duke's sons have in their lives? Thanks! Minti. x

I am not familiar with the college system but I think they spend at least two or three years. However, nobles like Frank seem to come and go as they wish. Sons of dukes are busy being earls etc until they get to be dukes - there are lands to manage and politics to dabble in (House of Lords and all that). Cat

Hi Cat, I have a question to ask you. Why was the "Green Room" in Theatre Royal called as such, and why was it named "Green?" Thanks. -Miri

Because the walls were originally green - it's as simple as that. Cat

Carly wrote on 16 August 2010:

When is your novella coming out? Do you have an exact date or just an estimate at least?

Hi John Webguy has done the magic and I proofed the formatted version this morning on my return from holiday. Now I am just seeing if I can get it an ISBN - this will allow me to put it for download on iPads etc (it's the worldwide book numbering system). Watch this space - hopefully in the next seven days. Julia
