The Glass Swallow Competition
The Glass Swallow Competition
Competition to celebrate the publishing the The Glass Swallow in the US this Fall
Competition is now closed. The answer was Magharna. The winner - picked out of a hat by my daughter - is Shadow Cat. Thanks for entering everyone and keep on visiting the site for more competitions in the New Year!
What you had to do...
Dear Readers from the US,
Win a signed copy of the US edition of The Glass Swallow by answering this question: in what country does Peri live?
I'll pick a winner at the end of November so if you leave your email (ask permission if you are under 13) I can get in touch with you directly. You won't see your answers posted below as they give the game away but I'll keep them on file.
Best wishes
Julia

Are we supposed to be making up a name for this country ? If so then Peri lives in Valusia
No - the name is in the book.

Peri is from the country of *********.

I could have sworn I entered this competition already but my name's not up there so I thought I better try again. Peri is from ********.
I did have you down already!
Kara wrote on 23 November 2011:
I believe he lives in ***********, but I'm not sure. Let me know if it's correct!

Opps... I thought you meant the country it's based on! Now I feel stupid. Anyway, that would be *******. I still love your books, by the way. That hasn't changed from yesterday. :) If I'm Wrong, I feel stupid Again. But I doubt it. (Mostly)
Then your answer (to the question you thought I was asking!) was inspired and now you are right. I've entered you for the draw.

I LOVED both of the books, though I have to admit the I liked The Glass Swallow better. Judging from your video, I would have to say that he's from Cumbria, England/ The Lake District; however, judging by his class system I would have guessed India.
I mean his country in the book! Take a look at the map.

Is it *******? Or am I wrong?
You're wrong!

Hi! I just wanted to say that Dragonfly And the Glass Swallow are 2 of the best structured books I have ever read. I love how you make Holt, Gerfal, the crescent Isles and all the other places seem so realistic- they have culture, religion, politics. It is amazing. Do you do a lot of research and if so what do you? I really hope you keep writing as you are one of my most favourite authors. Thank you so much! Georgina
Hi Georgina Thanks for the high praise! I think about the cultures I create a lot before writing - it is the fun of being an author. Some of them reflect real cultures (there is a lot of Japan in the Crescent Islands) but I try not to copy but use them as a launch pad for my own ideas. Julia
