The Chimera's Curse
The Chimera's Curse
The final installment in the Companions Quartet, "The Chimera's Curse".
‘How shall we kill the Universal?’ asked the serpent, its tongue flickering between its teeth. ‘Bite, burn or venom?’
Connie is the world’s last Universal – the only person who can communicate with all creatures; the only person who can keep peace between humans and the hidden mythical beings being destroyed by pollution.
But the shapeshifter Kullervo craves her power. He wants to wipe out humanity.
During a long, hot summer, as the sun beats down and the earth gets dryer, Kullervo prepares for war. The serpent-like chimera is just one part of his frightening army. As the inferno of Kullervo’s hatred crackles into life, Connie and her best friend Col must stop him. But how? And who will survive this fight to the death?

aww, thats so sad, I mean I'm more than ecstatic you're writing a new series, but if it's about George then we won't get to see Connie and Col growing up, and their relationship, and their first kiss! :( but still, I'm sooo glad you are continuing :)

Hi Julia! I think you are a great writer. If you have time to read these poems could you please email to let me know what you think of them? Sea Changes: The ceaseless sea whips away Days, minutes, seconds Like a whispered breath immortal but ever-changing An artist with her eagle eye cannot capture a truthful moment of one scene sliced out of the water never laying, never staying Shimmering, splashing, moving, changing the mirror shows a new reflection every time disappearing towards the horizon Cornish Senses: In Cornwall I hear.... the booming of the foamy waves the crying of the wheeling sea gulls the shrieks of the children having fun In Cornwall I smell.... the wild honeysuckle as I brush past the salty air long before I spy the sea In COrnwall I see.... the sun glittering on the shingle beach the amethyst heather and buttery gorse on the moorland the slick dappled heads of the seals In Cornwall I feel... the bullying wind against my face the shock of the icy water lapping on my legs the smooth sunbaked stones under my feet In Cornwall I taste.... tangy sea salt dusting my lips the surprising burst of sweetness from the wild bilberries the sweet musty saffron bread with rich juicy raisins. Hope you don't mind me sending these to you! Thank you Julia Briony Sayers (Hi Briony, they're great. I particularly like the 'bullying' image - just right. Were they at all inspired by reading Chimera or is it by accident you submitted on this page? I'm think of starting a fan page, so if you have a poem about a mythical creature or inspired by the books, so let me know. Julia)

Its me again! The girl with the weird name! All of your books have inspired me to write my own-its called BLACK DIAMOND and I hope i actually finish it! all my other ones were left half way... Will connie and col be the main characters in the next series or will they be like background characters? Is your next series a quartet again? When is swallow coming out (Im dying for this to come out!) Love your biggest fan, Darshana x (Hi Darshana (not a weird by a nice name), I'm thrilled when I pass on the writing bug - I caught it myself from other authors so it is great to be part of that chain of creative infection! Next series is still in early days but George is my main focus. On The Glass Swallow, see FAQS. Julia)

I've just finished the companions quartet, and I don't know what to do next. My teacher read the first book in class (I seemed to be the only person listening) and I read the rest of the series myself. Now that my mind is chock full of banshees, dragons, pegasi, etc, I feel lost and confused in my world of books.

Julia, I am 10 years old and from the US. I just finished your Companions Quartet Series. I liked all of the books so much but the last was my favorite. At the end of the book, I started reading as slow as I could so it would last longer. I got so into it that I stayed up until 11:30 reading it. Thank you for writing this series I look forward to reading the next ones very much. Your kids are lucky! Max
