The Chimera's Curse

The final installment in the Companions Quartet, "The Chimera's Curse".

‘How shall we kill the Universal?’ asked the serpent, its tongue flickering between its teeth. ‘Bite, burn or venom?’The chimera's curse book cover

Connie is the world’s last Universal – the only person who can communicate with all creatures; the only person who can keep peace between humans and the hidden mythical beings being destroyed by pollution.

But the shapeshifter Kullervo craves her power. He wants to wipe out humanity.

During a long, hot summer, as the sun beats down and the earth gets dryer, Kullervo prepares for war. The serpent-like chimera is just one part of his frightening army. As the inferno of Kullervo’s hatred crackles into life, Connie and her best friend Col must stop him. But how? And who will survive this fight to the death?

Wow, these books are incrediable! You are an inspiration to all your readers (including me). Your imagination and writing skills are to be admired by all. I have the 4th book on my bed side table ready to be read and I cant wait to find out what happens. I really think you should expand your ideas to give Connie and Col more adventures as I am sure it will make everyone happy. Including you hopefully. I tried to get into a few of your other books but they didn't suit me as much as these three (four tommrow!) I like to enjoy my reading and these books have been a few of the most amazing ones i have ever read, I really hope you reply to this on this website as I really want to hear your thoughts and views on hopefully countinuing the series or having them in a movie/t.v series. Katie x (Hi Katie, Did you try The Ship between the worlds? It's most like the quartet if you prefer fantasy to historical fiction. As you'll see from other emails, I'm thinking about Connie and Col but no plans to write more just yet. Julia)

*spoiler alert* ive read it now and i love it,its the second best seiries ive ever read(sorry, but to me,nothing rivals the inheritance trilogy by christopher paolini, the first book has ben made into a film, eragon)but considering how much i read(i do nothing else)books have to be petty darn good to make thier way into my top 3,anyway,i rly wanna see how simon and liam get trained, and goerge, also i wanna see connie shapeshift some more,PLEEEEEASE write more books(one with a pheonix companion!!!!! its like my favorate myth creature)also i wanna see what happens to col(he got into that squad thingy for britan) and everything else, shoudent there be creatures like frost giants, fire giants, fenris, and stuff, well, plz write another book,it would make 2904876945764357393 people happy, bye!

**spoiler alert** ive read the first 3 books and i love em,thier great, and when i finsihed the third book i was like 'awww i bet im gonna have to wait till like halfway thru next year for the next book' and i didnt want to wait that long,so then i said to myself 'well i might as well check the internet to see if theres any info on the release date' so i checked, and then i wa slike 'its already out!' i immediatly went to the library, all the copies were taken so i asked them to order it from another library,i cant wait to read it,and i desperatly hope for more books on the compainions quartet like mabye 'the companions sequel' XD,anyway i havnt read it yet but ive heared theres a new universal,if this is true then it would be cool to see connie train the new dude,id also like to see how argand grows up,and what new creatures connie meets(i dont know if its included in the 4th book, but if it isnt, shouldent there be pheonix's somewhere?). i think u could do so much more with this seiries, like fact books about the myth creatures, stuff like that and sequels, perhaps even a prequel(like the founding of the society,or all the society adults when they were being trained) i actully think u could make this seiries so popular that it will rival harry potter(it already is riviling it,and somehow harry potter doesnt rly give me the same exitement as this seiries does) anyway, bye!

Deirbhile wrote on 05 November 2007:

HI!! I absolutly adored all your books and then you suddenly go and end it like that!! I think that it would have been better if you had let the story carry on a few more books maybe and I really wan to know if you are going to write another book because that is one more of my 3 favourite collection of books that has ended(the other one being Harry Potter and the 3rd one ending with the next book!) so could you please let me know when your next book is coming out so then I have something to look forward to!!!!!!!! (Hi Deirbhile, you should take a look at my other series - you might find something you like. If I wrote more about Connie and Col, I'd have to start off in a whole new direction. I'll think about it. Julia)

Hi:) This book was really awesome. I can't believe it was the last book though. Can't there be an extended version of The Campanions Quartet? Coz' the whole series is soooo cool with all those mythylogical creatures. I have never enjoyed the fantasy genre this much. How could it end? Nooooooooo!

Laura wrote on 22 October 2007:

Hi Julia, I really loved reading all of your companion books. I really relish the antisipation I felt throughout the day just waiting to pick them up and unravel the story held within them. Through out my day at school my mind was off dreaming of mythical creatures and what the next twist in this awesome story might be. I would rush home from school and as soon as possible stuff my nose into one of your awe inspiring narratives. My spine would tingle with delight and my excitment bubbled within me when I began to read those amazingly compiled words printed on the spell binding pages of your wonderful books. Thankyou for providing me with those heart lifting sessions of joyous reading! I hope that you do write more books on Connie's story, maybe you could title a new series; The Companions Quest, or something along those lines anyway. Thankyou Laura
