Companions fans - your space!
I have been thinking for some time of displaying some of the lovely images and examples of your own work that you send me. I'll put up a selection on this page for fan fiction etc. so if you'd like to submit some, you can use the comment box below. Please keep your entry SHORT eg. a poem, a description, a spin-off storyline, maximum 300 words. I will not have room for essays!!
If you want to send pictures, put a copy in the post to Oxford University Press and they will forward them on to me. I won't be able to return them, but a photocopy will scan just fine.

Dear Julia, On the companions quartet website the thing where you choose your companion isn't working because in the secret of the sirens in the back of the book it says you get little fun things but when you complete the quiz it just says thankyou. Help! (Hi The book was launched in 2006 and the scheme ran until 2009 but the publishers had to end it at some point - sorry! Books have a longer life than these little promotions. Any reprint won't have that info in it. I've run out of the membership packs myself. Julia)

U no, We think Julia should write about Connie's new cousin in the next books. Connie goes missing and he feels he must save her, even tho he's not a member of the Society yet. He follows Col and finds out everything. Can they work together to save Connie from the new evil nemesis?

Chapter 2. Testing. Mae dismounted. A woman came toward her. The only surprising thing about her was her flowing blue hair. Light blue. "Hello." Mae said, unsure of what else to say. "Greetings. I hear you are here to have your test for the Society." "Yes. So, what is this test anyway." "It's rather simple, but I suppose you'll be rather confused. I know I was!" She laughed a laugh that sounded like a waterfall. "Now. Just stand in the middle of this circle." Mae stepped into the middle of a circle. "Looks like a compass." The lady laughed again. "Very astute of you. It is supposed to be a compass. Rather hard to do with grass." "I bet." The lady put a crystal on the point that symbolized north, a sparrow at east, a lizard at south, and a mouse at west. "Now what do I do?" Mae asked. "Stand with your hands out, palms up, and face each in turn." Mae faced the crystal as the lady said. It glowed. The lady jotted it down. Mae faced the sparrow. It flew onto Mae's shoulder. The lady jotted it down. She faced the lizard. It jumped into the air. The lady jotted it down. Mae faced the mouse. It chattered and went from side to side. "How unusual. Mae, I believe you may be a Universal." Come back tomorrow for chapter 3, Trustees.

Chapter 1. Journey. Mae Belden walked toward the stable. Today she would be tested for the mysterious "Society". Mae was a Yellowstone girl, through and through, and felt anything that would protect the animals would be quite worth all this mystery. She took her mare, Goldie out of the stall. If anyone had seen the girl they would have been surprised by her not putting any tack on the horse. Seeing her ride, however, would make them feel quite reassured that Mae was an expert rider, heading for the forest at a trot. When Mae entered the forest, the reassurance would disappear, had anyone seen her. Of course, no one had ever seen. Mae whispered to Goldie, "Now we'll have some fun." And set off at a roaring canter through the woods. Goldie then gave a wild whinny. To Mae, however that whinny was "Time for tricks!" Mae stood on the swift palomino mare. She lifted her leg high. And while at a trot this is rather fun for an experienced rider, at a canter it is considered far too dangerous, especially in the woods. Any worried spectator would have run to help the girl up after she suddenly disappeared, believing she had fallen. The horse seemed to have come to that conclusion, stopping and running back. When Goldie arrived at that spot, Mae landed on her back. "Fools you every time." Mae whispered, surprising Goldie. "We're going to be late." The horse replied. "I know, I know. Lake said the same thing." "Why don't you let Lake make sure you don't do any tricks to make you late?" "All right." Mae agreed sulkily. "Lake!" she shreed. An eagle landed on Mae's shoulder. The girl and eagle on the horse cantered toward the place Mae had been told to go. Mae and Lake had a nice conversation. Then Goldie stopped. They had arrived. Stop by tomorrow for chapter 2, Testing!

I'm writing a fan fiction story about the Society, and another very special girl in it! I'm going to write it in chapters that I'll post on here. First, I'll make a character list. Only the most important characters are on this! Belden, Mae.(Companion) A California girl who loves animals and finds an important place in the Society, one that could lead to her destiny... or her doom. Lake. (Eagle) A girl eagle who Mae rescues from the lake. Goldie.(Horse) Mae's young mare who gladly shares in Mae's capricious stunts. Lionheart, Connie. (Trustee) The Universal Trustee. Her companion is the golden dragon Argand. Married to Col Clamworthy. (Below.) Clamworthy, Col.(Trustee) The Two-Four Trustee. His companion is the pegasus Skylark. Married to Connie Lionheart. (Above.) Moss, Jessica. (Trustee) The Sea Snake trustee. Her companion is the Selkie Arran. Felsen, Marie.(Trustee) The Elemental trustee. Her companion is the rock dwarf Gard. Tempesta, Lana.(Trustee) The High Flyers trustee. Her companion is the storm-bird Lightning. Goldwing. (Pegasus) A young golden pegasus. Erie. (Great Eagle) A fierce hot-tempered Great Eagle. Draak. (Dragon) A silver dragon, nearly as rare as golden. Ellen. (Fire imp) A mischievous female fire imp. Chapter 1 will come soon!

I love the books you wrote.my favorite is about connie and col. I would like to hear your opinion on this weird poem I wrote. Life has meaning still I ponder to understand it.For as the great wind blows where will it stop? When will I leave? Life as no meaning to us who don't understand life or joy.Iwait for the tide to come in.For a child's present to arrive. For the frost to stop burning down the crops. To the mountains who look like giant swaying trees.I bid that life as to do much unless you found hope. (Hi I'm not much of a poet but that prose poem reads very vividly. Julia)

heya - i LOVE the companions quartet - i'm reading the last one now and i reeeeeeeealy want Col to ask connie out :) i know its kinda cliche but i still think it would be really cool! although aren't they technically cousins? oh well :) i also think they would make wicked movies - waaay better than something like twilght :) i really don't want this book to end - if only there were more!! :) (Not cousins by blood only by marriage so there's no problem. A little message from a german fan (in german): Hallo Mrs Golding! (Hi - I don't speak German so I hope this is polite! Greetings to you all in Germany. Julia)
