Companions fans - your space!
I have been thinking for some time of displaying some of the lovely images and examples of your own work that you send me. I'll put up a selection on this page for fan fiction etc. so if you'd like to submit some, you can use the comment box below. Please keep your entry SHORT eg. a poem, a description, a spin-off storyline, maximum 300 words. I will not have room for essays!!
If you want to send pictures, put a copy in the post to Oxford University Press and they will forward them on to me. I won't be able to return them, but a photocopy will scan just fine.

Julia, your books CHANGED my life!!!!! I LOVE the suspense in all of your books. I love how u create a world beyond imaginable, it's so beyond reality and fanatized, but that mixes with everyday life. In this series you create people and creatures and bring them to life with happiness sadness joy humiliation humar decisions anger and hope. This book series shows what it's like in the real world, and in the fantasy world. This book brings new meaning to mythical creatures and I like how u make the reader feel like its all true. I really wanted to ask u something!!!!! Ok, here it is... DO U BELIEVE IN MYTHICAL CREATURES??? And have u ever seen one? Love, aubrie
Hi Aubrie The real world is full of creatures of amazing powers and diversity so I think we are very lucky and must do our best to help them survive so they don't become myths. Of the magical sort, I like to imagine them to be real but I'm not expecting to bump into one myself.

Is the water thief part of a series, or is it just 1 random book about Connie's family.
Intended as part of series and when I have the time I will write another. I like my characters too much to leave them alone forever!

Dear Mrs Golding! At first I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read this. I have a really special question, of which I hope you can answer me: In the books everybody has his or her own pin that shows their membership. Do you know if there is any possibility to get one of those? Perhaps there's a fan who is doing some? I thought, you as the author could know that... Have a nice day! Martine (And as always, kind greetings from Germany! ^^)
Dear Martine That scheme ran until about 2009 (for three years) but has ended. I'm afraid it is only the online test that still exists. Julia

I love these books! And the best part is, I am a companion to dragons. They are my favorite! Does anyone know any sites that have games for the Companions Quartet?
Not now - the books came out a while ago when these online things were much more limited.

hey they are bril books so glad you wrote them.I am writing a book too.is 13 too young to write or not and how much do YOU get for publishing a book roughly.???
13 is not too young as everything you write will teach you more about writing. Book advances are usually small (not enough to pay bills) but selling the same book to publishers overseas helps swell the income stream (I won't put a figure on it though!)

Hello, Miss Golding! I bet, you can't imagine, what happened just a moment ago here in my room! I've read the list of your books and what did I see? "Universal Companions - Water Thief"! I just jumped up and couldn't stop the hysteric laughing, that was bubbling out of me! New stuff about the Company to read! Yay!! As a big fan of the "Companions Quartet" I had to read the sample chapter. It was a pleasure to read it. I recognized your style of writing and felt like an eleven-year old again. That was when I read "The Secret of the Sirens" for the first time. (And that was a little more than three years ago. Man, it seems like yesterday to me! How time passes by, doens't it?) Well, however, I just started rereading "The Chimeras Curse" today... (For the thirty-sixth time, I guess.) A remnat of the old days is: I still know every line! I am abled to quote a few pages without thinking. A little fanatic, eh? You think I should be concerned about that ;-) Here in Germany, nobody knows your series. That's a real pity. And everytime I try to tell them what happens in these great/brilliant/fantastic/... (please insert a word of your choice^^) books, people just start snoring... Don't get me wrong, it's not like they wouldn't appreciate a good book, but they have not this connection to the characters, like everybody who left a comment on this page has. And the fact that I am (until now) the only one I know who is so in love with the series, you can call me your official German fanclub if you want so! :) Oh, seems, like I wrote more than I planned... Sorry^^ Everything I wanted to say is that every line of your books is just adorable and that I have to spend some pocket money to buy "Water Thief" now. When I read the books, I felt kind of your presence behind the words. Your books were the first thicker books I've ever read, and from the moment I read them, I wanted to become an author. You're the reason my teachers desperate when they get my class tests: I can't stop writing anymore. Thanks for the motivation you gave me without your knowledge when I was eleven, that made me believe in more that I can see and that you still give me today, because I can find myself in Connie, who never gave up and followed her plans. I wish I could meet you face-to-face one time... With excuses for possible grammar mistakes and greetings from Germany, Martine
Dear Martine Thanks for being my German fan club! I hope you enjoy the new story and that it gives you lots of new motivation. Julia

Dear Julia Golding, I really loved the Companions Quartet. Connie and Col are the perfect couple. If you ever find the time, and I think a lot of your fans will agree with me, I would love to see a book about Connie and Col focusing on them in the years between The Chimera's Curse and Water Theif. Thank you for writing such wonderful stories. I love the magic and romance, and of course, the animals.
Thanks, Abigail.

How many books do you plan to write about the Sociey? Will there be a book after Water Thief?
I'm not sure yet. Working on a big new series (not companions) called Young Knights of the Round Table, out next year so that might be the next thing to look out for. It has many of the same kind of pleasures I think.
