School visits
One of my favourite parts of being an author is getting to meet my readers. I enjoy going in to schools to run book sessions or workshops all based around game playing or coming down the front to put on costumes or take part in quizzes. With me, your young people can
- find out about life two hundred years ago,
- become a pirate,
- test their survival skills,
- discover what the Vikings were really like,
- or join the Secret Society for the Protection of Mythical Creatures.
I normally charge for my visits (apply to me for current rates) but if you can lure me there with a massive book selling opportunity I'm open to negotiation!
So if you are a teacher, librarian or festival organizer and would like me to visit you, please use the form below to drop me a line, or feel free to approach me via one of my publishers.
Julia

Dear Ms Golding, I am writing this on behalf of my schools creative writing group: The South Front. I attend Wellington College in Crowthorne, Berkshire and every week our writing group meets to take part in a session, usually this is run within the school but occasionally we are lucky enough to have a workshop run by a published novelist or poet. When I was in year six my class at my old school, St Neots, won the Nestle book prize for doing a project on your book, The Diamond of Drury Lane and we loved every minute of it. Since then, I have been an avid reader of all your books (especially the Cat Royal series, I just can't get enough of her!) and it would mean the world to me and the rest of the writing group if you could come and run a workshop with us at some point in time? I have asked my teacher and she has given me permission to write to you asking of this but of course if you decide you would like to come then she would take over and organise the timings and payment side of things. Our group has a range of ages from 13-18 with students that have been writing for quite a few years now to ones that have only just started. If you were to come to our school it would really mean a lot, not just to me, but to all of us.
Dear Charlie Thank you for your lovely message. I'd be happy to come. Perhaps you could direct your teacher to this site so she can contact me about the arrangements. Julia

Hiya Julia Thanks for answering or questions. Please can you reply to this at .......... so that my head teacher can contact you about coming to our school. We have one other question, do you have any preferences for traveling to and from Oxford. Thank you!! Bookworms
Hi Please ask your teacher to contact me via this site. The approach won't be made public but they should read the information on school visits before taking a decision as to whether they want to invite me. best wishes Julia

Dear Julia Golding, My name is Emily and I am part of the bookworms club (you can view our website at www.bookywookyworms.moonfruit.com). I have read the Cat Royal books and the Darcie Lock books and enjoyed them immensely and now I am anxiously waiting for Deadlock! In the Bookworms we are trying to encourage authors to come to our school to give an inspiring talk, so now we approach you with the most important part of this letter, would you like to come to our school and give an inspiring talk? Of course we understand that you are very busy with your writing and travelling, however we are willing to pay transportation and any additional fees that you may present to us. If you do decide to refuse then we would like you to answer these questions and any information about yourself that you wish us to know: 1. When did you decide to become an author? 2. What is your favourite book out of the Cat Royal Series and the Darcie Lock series? 3. Will Darcie ever see Kassim or Archie again? 4. Will Darcie ever become really girly? 5. Is Deadlock going to be the last Darcie Lock book? (Please No!) 6. Will you make a film out of the Darcie Lock books? Thank you so much for reading this letter and hopefully we will see you soon! Yours Sincerely and Best Wishes Emily Clare and the Bookworms (P>S sorry about the email question)
Hi Bookworms I do school visits - check out the special section under info for more details. You'd have to get staff involved. 1. You don't decide to become an author really - you get a contract! That decision is in the hands of the publisher. 2. I don't play favourites with my book offspring. 3. She does see someone again in Deadlock... 4. Unlikely - unless it is part of her cover. 5. I hope not. 6. Open to offers but, like most authors, I'm not a film maker. The approach has to come from the film studio. Julia

I've just finished reading some of your books these last few weeks. Namely, Dragonfly, Companions Quartet series and Darcie Lock series. They were fantastic! I'm looking forward to reading more. Unfortunately, it is not easy to buy your books from the bookstores in Thailand. However, they were available in my daughter's school library! Luckily, parents are also allowed to borrow books from there. Do you have any plans to come to Bangkok?
I hadn't realized I had made it to Thailand. No plans at the moment but I hear it is a beautiful country! J

I have read the first two Cat Royal Books and could never put them down when I read them. I am finding it hard reading at the moment because everything seems so boring and badly written compared to your books. The Cat Royal books seem to be the only thing I can enjoy reading and want to read in spare time. I NEED to get the next book. I am a book worm (some people in my class even call me this as a nickname) and I usually enjoy almost all books. Horror, fantasy or twisted fairy tales but at the moment the Cat Royal Books are the only thing to me. I want to be an author when I am older. I am currently 11 but I am almost sure it is right for me to do. In school I do best in maths getting a 5A in my Sats in Year 6 but my favourite lesson is English. I write stories in all the spare time I have and you and your books are my biggest insperation. Sorry this isn't a message asking for you to come to my school but I really want you to personally get this Julia Golding so you know what a good author and role model you are to me. I hope you reply, Eve
Hi Eve If you can persuade your school to invite me, there is information about how to do it on this site. Keep on writing! Julia

The award ceremony will be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday 26th January 2011. Please can you let me know if you will be able to attend the award ceremony? All the young people (c 300) who have read the books and voted will be at the ceremony where they give a creative interpretation of the 5 shortlisted books. It is usually a wonderful occasion full of energy and enthusiasm and all about books!! I look forward to hearing from you.
