Mines of the Minotaur
‘Something’s wrong,’ Col said urgently. The wind was buffeting him back, trying to prevent him reaching his friend. ‘Connie!’ he yelled. ‘Connie! Stop it!’ She was standing very close to the cliff edge, her toes curled over the crumbling lip...
Connie is a Universal – she can talk to animals and mythical creatures. But something dark is calling to her, giving her dangerous power, and her best friend Col doesn’t know what to do.
When her strange behaviour means Connie is rejected by the Society for the Protection of Mythical Creatures - the very group of people who are supposed to protect her - she hides in an abandoned tin mine. There she is befriended by a blinded Minotaur, and feels safe amongst the other wounded creatures the Society and the world have forgotten.
But even deep underground she can’t block out the dark voice in her head. Who is it, and where does it come from? And why does Connie feel so terrified by the power it gives her?

Justr finished this book and theending was sooo sweet. I know the Chimera's Curse has already been published but I really want to Connie and Col to have their first kiss and get together!! And rub it in Miss Masterson's face!! Great reading!!

I love these books!!!! This one is the best one I've read yet, I think. If you had a mythical creature you could be companions to, which would it be? I think I like the frost wolf, the water sprite, phoenixes, pegasi, wood sprites, selkies, etc. Basically I just don't like stone sprites, snakes or(ugh) weather giants. I HATE weather giants. I BET in the next one Connie and Col get together in the fourth book (I won't say last for fear of the Companion's Quest supporters). Except, wouldn't they be, like, step-cousins now Mack and Evelyn are married? Anyway. Great book!!! Lizzie. (Water sprite for me. J)

Wow! What I want to know is, how come, if Rat is a frost wolf companion, how come he saw all the little people in the trees when his parents didn't? It's reaally good, this book. I like Rat, he's funny. And Connie didn't have a clue about Col being told to dump her? Amazing! Does she find out in the next book? I REALLY need to get it, find out what happens... but of course I have complete faith in Connie's powers... or should I be scared? Thank you for another BRILLIANT book! (Hi, SPMC members all notice all animals, just aren't companions to the other species. J)

I'm 15, just read Mines of the Minotaur and it is SO good - just like the rest of the series!! I love the description, especially when Connie is controlling the storms, you can almost feel her emotion!! Can't wait for the next book =) PS - Have to agree with the others who have fingers crossed for Connie and Col...!
