Mines of the Minotaur
Mines of the Minotaur
‘Something’s wrong,’ Col said urgently. The wind was buffeting him back, trying to prevent him reaching his friend. ‘Connie!’ he yelled. ‘Connie! Stop it!’ She was standing very close to the cliff edge, her toes curled over the crumbling lip...
Connie is a Universal – she can talk to animals and mythical creatures. But something dark is calling to her, giving her dangerous power, and her best friend Col doesn’t know what to do.
When her strange behaviour means Connie is rejected by the Society for the Protection of Mythical Creatures - the very group of people who are supposed to protect her - she hides in an abandoned tin mine. There she is befriended by a blinded Minotaur, and feels safe amongst the other wounded creatures the Society and the world have forgotten.
But even deep underground she can’t block out the dark voice in her head. Who is it, and where does it come from? And why does Connie feel so terrified by the power it gives her?

Hello. Just wonderin', at the end Col's mentor says something along the lines of: 'That's i fine girl over there, i hope you didn't go and jilt her off?' Col replies 'No i'm not that stupid', Does this intend to show that Col has 'romantic' feelings for her? Or just that's she's a good friend? i got confused over that bit. Thank you. ;)
Read it again - I don't think the conversation is quite like that! It means he was sensible enough to ask her out. J

Hi, This is probably my favourite Companions Quartet book. I absolutely love the plot and everything that happens to Connie (especially meeting Sentinel). I was just wondering: why is Connie always sad at the beginning of the books?
Is she? Lonely but not sad in Sirens. Scared and exhilarated in Gorgon (she gets a dragonet after all...) J

I do believe, "james", that you may very well be one of the most annoying people I have yet to meet. "Constructive criticism", ha. I can't believe you even answered that, Julia. I personally wouldn't put up with it. No offense, of course.
Point of honour to include every view as long as not rude. J

Hey Julia, I love your books!!! I was getting bored of Harry Potter(not really- go J K Rowling!) so I picked up your books and read through them again. I can't believe I forgot how awesome your books are! And I heard something about you writing a new series along the same lines- is that true? I hope it is - if it isn't PLEASE consider it!!!! PS- I love storm birds, but I've been wondering lately- can you ride them?
I think you'd have to be very light and a companion to ride one. see FAQ for the other answer. Julia

Hello, I've just started this book. I ordered it to come for the day you came into my school (CCHS) but it didn't. I was absolutely gutted, but now I'm entering a competition to win some of your books, signed. I have my fingers crossed.
You could always send me bookplates to sign. J
