The Ship Between the Worlds

The Ship Between the Worlds

When David Jones finds himself aboard a pirate ship, he knows it must be a dream. Except that he’s awake. And the ‘dream’ is more like a nightmare.

The ship between the worlds book cover

Before he can take it all in, David is swept up in the adventure of a lifetime: volunteered to act as a spy on an enemy ship, marooned, and picked up by the most fearsome band of buccaneers ever known.

Can he escape? The answer lies in the golden thread glistening under the sea – and everybody is desperate to have it. Could it lead David home, or to his missing father – or both?

Review: 'This is high octane, high drama on the high seas. It’s got all the fun of Pirates of the Caribbean, the action of Master and Commander and brilliant characterization that reminds me of the masterful Treasure Island.' LoveReading4Kids

I like Shushula. She is my favourite character, apart from Ruramina. I had to read this book for the Book Quiz and we got all the questions right. It is so good! Thank you for being an author or my life would not be possible to live. Bye, Miss Inkweaver

I am currently reading the ship between the worlds (it is half term and the only time us busy teachers get to read!) before reading it to my year 4 class. I am totally engrossed and i know they will not want to do anything but listen to the story when we go back to school. We are coming to listen to you speak on the 17th June in Southampton and WE can't wait! Our head teacher has read most of the Cat books and writes reviews on them for the library. Sadly he is unable to come with us to meet you, but i'm sure the children will let him know what he misses out on. ( I look forward to meeting you all. Ship is just out on CD - Chivers - and I've been listening to it in the car - a strange experience for an author! Julia)

Hey Julia, I know that you're probably fed up of reading long opinions but I know you probably hear it all the time but, I've just literally 2 hours ago finished reading Ship Between the Worlds and I just wanted to know what inspired you? YOU'RE THE BEST AUTHOR EVER! (I know you are probably getting fed up of reading this now so I'll stop writing!) Thanks for reading, Caroline

This is a great book however tyhere is one bit i do not get when on one of the islands David sees his father but his father looks up and runs off why? Have I missed something? Would you please reply to let me know x (Hi Jenny, he doesn't run from David. He's on the far side of the river and sees Bonebag, with someone who looks a lot like his son, but he can't be sure. He doesn't want the pirates from the Scythe to stop him - they'd think he was stealing their golden thread - so he gets out of sight. David has sailed before he can catch up with the ship and find out who the boy was. Julia)

Which of your books should my 9 year old son start with. We are new to you as an author. Thanks. (Hi Julia, this book would be a good place to start, or perhaps Secret of the Sirens. Julia)
