Secret of the Sirens

Secret of the Sirens

Col felt a stab of fear in his stomach. The Sirens were now close enough for him to see their crimson mouths open in a scream, pale faces blazing with white-hot anger, their bird-claws tearing at the air..

Secret of the sirens book cover

When Connie is sent to live with her aunt by the sea, she’s not expecting anything much – not to make friends with Col, the coolest boy in town, and certainly not to discover that mythical creatures still exist, that an ancient society has protected them for centuries and that a dark and powerful force is now trying to destroy it. Above all, she doesn’t expect to discover that she has a special talent – greater even than her secret ability to talk to animals – which, with Col’s help, could give her unimaginable power...

This is one of my favorate series. That is a compliment, considering I only haver two other series that are on that list. I'm not one of those people who like to say that something is their favorite book just because they're writing to the author. I'm a fan from the US and I really think that 4 books just isn't enough. I got in so much trouble for not going to sleep on a school night, as I literally couldn't put it down! (I swear I actually heard it calling my name) I'm in between the 2nd and the 3rd, and can't wait to find The Mines of the Minotaur. I think that your take on environmental issues and what can be done to help is interesting, and I'm glad your helping kids to realize what harm us humans are doing. This may sound like a wierd question, but I would be honored if you answered it: Whats it like in the UK? I have a friend from there, and I know lots of great authors from there, and I want to go there, but I don't have the money. Another question is about writing. I have stories lined up in my head, but when I try to put it down on paper, it just comes out all choppy and not the way I intended it to be. Any advice? Thanks in advance. (Dear Debbie I'm so pleased to hear you like the series - they are important books to me, not least because of the environmental theme. The UK? Well, there are so many different sides to any country but I suppose I can tell you a little of where I live. My city, Oxford, is full of very old buildings - colleges - I suppose they look a bit like Hogwarts interior if you are trying to imagine them (some of them are used as locations for the HP films). Lots of different nationalities come to Oxford, some visiting for a short time as they study at the university, so it is very international. I would imagine you would find the young people very like your own friends though (without baseball and American football - we follow soccer, rugby and cricket here). The countryside is very green - fields and rolling hills - the kind of thing you see in films set in the UK. There also less attrACT things about my part of the world - think of the housing estate where the Dursleys live - there are plenty of those about - OK but very boring. Julia

will any of the companions quartet books get made into a movie? (It would be good wouldn't it? But there are no takers as yet. Julia)

Enzo wrote on 03 May 2008:

This looks like a great read! I hope to read all four of the companions quartet. I've always been a fan of mythical stories! Could you please tell me if you wish to continue writing anymore books in the companions quartet series? Does it just end at no. 4?? (It does end but I see more possibilities in the future. J)

Andrea wrote on 26 April 2008:

Amazing!!! I've never read anything like it! Connie is sooo cool. I've read the 2nd book now and am saving up for the 3rd, but this is still my favourite! One question, though. I never knew anyone immigrated to the Philippines for work, I thought it was the other way round? And what do Mr and Mrs Lionheart do? Okay, that's two. But still! (I think they work for the British Council. J)
