Empty Quarter

Empty Quarter

Nominated for the Carnegie Award 2009

Darcie's stuck aboard a cruise ship for problem rich kids. It sounds exotic but it’s more like boot camp. Things are about to get interesting though... Darcie becomes embroiled in a kidnapping plot that will take her from Naples, via Cyprus, to Egypt and on a terrifying journey through the desert empty quarter.

An adventure-thriller starring Darcie Lock.

Love, love, loved Empty Quarter! It was incredible. Ordinarily I prefer books with slightly older lead characters, but with the Darcie books her age doesn't bother me in the least. I can't wait to read Deadlock. About how old is Stingo by the way? I was assuming maybe 25, but I didn't have any real reason for thinking that. (Late 20s. J)

i LOVE ALL YOUR BOOKS, THAY ARE AMAZING AND I ENJOYED THEM A LOT! JUST WONDERING WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A WRITER AND IF YOU KNOW ANY OTHER FAMOUS AUTHORS!!!!!!!!! (Telling stories is the inspiration - can't stop! I've met quite a few now - look out for my friend Cressida Cowell's book on film How to Train Your Dragon - see the trailer. Julia)

Hi! I read Ringmaster a while ago and didn't realize there was a sequel until a few days ago when I re-read it! I read EQ and it was really great! I'm really looking forward to your next book, and in the meantime I'm reading Dragonfly. I love your writing!

Andrea wrote on 24 July 2009:

I can't stop myself from reading this book over and over again! It's just so cool! I can't believe our library lost it's only copy of Ringmaster. And personally, I don't see what all the fuss about Deadlock's covers is about, what matters is what's between them. Your books rock even if the covers were shabby, torn apart and illustrated by a 2-year old with magic markers. I really can't wait for the next books to come out!

Love Ringmaster! It is a great book. Is Deadlock the sequel to Empty Quarter? I'm a bit confused. I cannot wait to read Empty Quarter, and some of your other series. (EQ is the sequel to Ringmaster, and Deadlock - not yet out - follows that. J)

Sasha wrote on 24 June 2009:

I just wanted to ask you how did you get the idea of making a book in Egypt and about the presidents daughter????!!!!! Bye!!!! (Not sure - it was just a 'what if..' question: what if the president's daughter was off the rails etc. Julia)
